“Children are delicate human beings.”
Here at The Learning Zone, our aim is to develop the whole child. Our approach to childcare and early education is a holistic one, using a gentle approach with the understanding that each child is unique and child development is an individual and gradual process.
Holistic Approach
An holistic approach to child development and well-being considers the whole child and all of the dimensions that interact together as a child grows up. Rather than focusing on only a child’s physical or mental development, an holistic approach recognizes that children are made up of interconnected parts: mental, physical, socio-emotional and spiritual.
We believe that a holistic approach to early education encourages healthier thinking patterns and understanding of things. Children need time to play and we believe this cannot be done through an academic curriculum that condenses the world into instructional packages, but through direct engagement with the environment.
Holistic education is based on the premise that each child finds identity, meaning and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world and to universal values such as compassion and peace. We aim to provide a holistic education through direct engagement with each child we care for, and by allowing them to directly engage with the natural environment that surrounds them.
Holistic education nurtures a child’s natural sense of wonder. Using this approach to child development seeks to simultaneously develop each child’s physical, emotional, relational, spiritual and intellectual sense of self in an organic fashion, providing each child with a reverence for life and the natural world and a passionate love of learning.
