The Learning Zone is situated conveniently in the Whiteinch area of Glasgow, just a few minutes from Glasgow’s vibrant West End. We are privileged to be surrounded by wonderful parks, gardens and museums which we routinely take our children to on outings. Here are some of the places where we go:
Victoria Park
This is an excellent ‘green’ space with lots of swans, ducks and other wildlife directly across from our nursery. There is also a lovely swingpark for the children to play on and plenty of quiet areas for summer picnics.
Riverside Transport Museum
The Riverside Museum is situated a short distance from our nursery. Situated on the banks of the River Clyde, it is home to the old Transport Museum exhibits and is an exciting experience for young minds to explore. It is also home to the Tall Ships Exhibit.
Fossil Grove
The Fossil Grove is a treasured museum situated inside Victoria Park. It was discovered in 1887 and contains the fossilised stumps of eleven extinct Lepidodendron trees, which are sometimes described as “giant club mosses” but they may be more closely related to quillworts. An excellent piece of history and a global natural wonder on our doorstep for the children to enjoy!
Kelvingrove Museum
Kelvingrove Museum is situated a short distance from us. It has 22 themed, state-of-the-art galleries displaying an astonishing 8000 objects. The collections are extensive, wide-ranging and internationally-significant. There is also regular, pre-school friendly exhibits throughout the year which the children love to attend.
Other Activities
Our list is not exhaustive – other activities enjoyed by our children have included visits to the Glasgow Science Centre, panto trips, in-house movement and music classes and Spanish language classes. Feel free to recommend an activity your child might enjoy!
